Bharti Kher’s The Skin Speaks a Language Not
Its Own , is an iconic contemporary Indian sculpture, awe-inspiring in its scale, detail, and beauty. Combining two traditional symbols of Indian culture—the bindi and the elephant—the lifesize fibreglass replica took the artist close to 10 months to create. It was auctioned for a remarkable £1.2 million at Sotheby’s in 2010.
