Fit & Famous
Team India’s handsome and erce all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, in a heartwarming chat with ‘H&N’, shares the gritty journey of his life – starting from his passion for cricket, battle with cancer and his tough comeback, to nding love and more…
Skating, Not Cricket
"I was a disciplined kid. And from quite young, I was into fashion and quite updated with the latest trends too. I liked getting dressed for outings and get-togethers, and styling my hair too. And Chandigarh, where I come from, had the right mix of everything! "I was interested in sports since childhood but had zero interest in cricket. I liked playing tennis, skated competitively and was a skating champion in the under-14 division. I would return home with my medals, but my father Yograj (a former Indian cricketer and an actor), who was a task master, would push me to play cricket. That's when I started training in cricket under the guidance of my father. We did a lot of outdoor training and agility work. Today, I can say that l am a cricketer only because of my father."
Discovering & Loving Cricket
"However, my passion for cricket kept growing by the day, and today, I play cricket because I love the game. My goal is to enjoy and keep playing the sport. I have always let my bat do the talking. And over the years and with experience, I have learnt to perform under pressure. The longer I've played, the more I've enjoyed playing under pressure. I feel pressure brings out the best in me."
World Cup Tales
"And yes, talking of pressure, the 2011 World Cup was very special to me. I was playing the World Cup for a very special person. And under pressure, I could only think of him (Sachin Tendulkar), and that kept me going. The highpoint, of course, was being declared The Man of the Tournament'. So it's etched in my heart."
