Health & Nutrition - - JUST LAUNCHED - Coordinated by PRABHAKAR A PUTHRAN

Iam 52 years old and have diabetes and blood pressure. (a) I feel something coming out of my ear now and then (like as if there is water inside, which is coming out). So I keep putting ear buds inside. (b) My nose gets blocked very easily and I have breathing problems, especially in the night, when sleeping under high speed fan. I keep using an inhaler. Please help! Pramod Puthran, New Mumbai

(a) There is nothing wrong with your ear. So it is important that you never ‘instrument’ your ear. Do not put anything inside. This could lead to serious life-threatening infections especially since you are diabetic. (b) From your second complaint, it is likely that your problem is caused by a condition known as GERD (also known as acidity). Take a decongestant tablet at night along with a Proton pump inhibitor like Esomerprazole (40 mg) twice a day for about a week. Consult your ENT doctor and take these medications under supervision. Do not lie down immediately after a meal. Keep a gap of 30 minutes.
