As­tudy at the Univer­sity of Ore­gon found that of the 45 par­tic­i­pants, those who were asked to read the print edi­tion of a news­pa­per re­mem­bered more of the sto­ries, top­ics and main points than those who read from the web­site. Read­ing on­line opens us up to end­less dis­trac­tions like ads, re­lated links, IMs and e-mails, and re­search shows that web­pages can be more men­tally tax­ing to read than phys­i­cal pages. To get the most out of your on­line read­ing, re­sist the temp­ta­tions of the in­ter­net and try to no­tice when you’re skim­ming in­stead of truly dig­ging into the ma­te­rial.
