GURGAON:: Haryana transport minister Krishan Lal Panwar stopped a private bus bearing resemblance to one from Haryana Roadways during a drive from Gurgaon to Mewat on Thursday.

On way to Mewat for a grievance committee meeting, Pawar spotted the bus near Sohna road. He ordered his motorcade to stop and got the bus to pull over on a vacant portion of the road. The bus’s registration plate read HR 55 X 6885 and it had the same colours as the ones plied by Haryana Roadways.

Upon enquiry, he learned that the bus was plying between Sohna and Palwal. However, instead of ‘Haryana Roadways’, the bus was marked ‘Haryana Express’ in front and ‘Haryana Shakti’ at the back.

Though there were no passengers, a bunch of tickets issued by Haryana Roadways was found inside the bus.

Sensing foul play, the minister informed the Regional Transport Authority. Soon, the RTA officials arrived at the spot

As minister, I cannot let private operators deceive the public by posing as Haryana Roadways officials. KRISHAN LAL PANWAR , transport minister

and impounded the bus.

RTA officials said this was the second time that the transport minister had stopped a private bus resembling one of the Haryana Roadways. He had seized a similar bus on Sohna Road last year. “As transport minister, I cannot let private operators deceive the public by posing as Haryana Roadways officials. I always look out for such vehicles and get the transport authority to seize them,” Panwar said.

Last year, the RTA, during a drive, impounded ten buses near Iffco Chowk. Four of them resembled those of Haryana Roadways.
