COMMISSIONER’S PECULIAR ORDER

-

The peculiar decision of the commissioner not to challan commuters for traffic violations has surprised many, especially when the average daily challans in Ludhiana stand at about 700. The commissioner said he wanted to sensitise people about how important it was to follow traffic rules on their own and not out of police fear. The officer also withdrew 80% of the traffic cops from roads in a bid to ‘streamline’ traffic. He said the aim behind removing cops was to introduce ‘self policing’ on experimental basis. However, this led to jams on Wednesday evening.
