Former councillor Surinder Chaudhary and his aides allegedly pelted bricks and stones during a land dispute, injuring two cops at Putlighar locality here on Sunday.

Though, one of the party involved in dispute claimed that shots were also fired but police denied that.

The injured cops have been identified as constable Rajesh Kumar and constable Narendra Kumar. The duo who are serving in police control room (PCR) were on the spot to calm down the two parties involved in the land-dispute, but were attacked. As per information Rajesh is undergoing treatment at a private hospital and is reportedly serious.

Kiran colony resident Karaj Singh told that he purchased a residential plot at Putlighar 20 years ago and has all required evidences to prove his ownership. But Chaudhary is calming that the land belongs to him. Karaj said he also lodged a complaint in this regard at the cantonment police station few days back. “When we started construction work on Sunday morning, Chaudhary accompanied by 20-25 armed aides reached there and started thrashing us. When we warned of calling the police, they started firing. In panic, the labourers and masons fled from the spot,” said Karaj.

He said, “The attackers also pelted stones, bricks and glass bottles at us. The PCR team reached the spot and tried to pacify the attackers. They did not even spare the cops and pelted bricks at them.” During the clash a brick hit constable Rajesh’s head and another hit Narendra’s shoulder. Both fell unconscious and were taken to the hospital where their condition is stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, statement of eyewitness Kuldeep Singh who also reached there to bring the situation under control was recorded.

A case has been registered against the former councillor and his aides under the charges of attempt to murder, said inspector Sushil Kumar, station house officer.
