JAMMU: A day after Pakistan army’s Border Action Team (BAT) ambushed and killed two Indian soldiers, the Indian Army retrieved the body of a Pakistani gunman from the conflict area in Khari Karmara of Krishna Ghati sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Friday.

The border patrol of Indian Army had killed two BAT gunmen on Thursday afternoon in the retaliatory fire at Chakan-daBagh area of KG sector, along the Line of Control. “While fleeing, the Pakistani gunmen carried one of the bodies of their colleagues, while the second one remained in the conflict area,” said an intelligence official. It was within the visual reach of the army and it was retrieved cautiously, he added. Sources said that Northern Command may share details of the slain gunman, provided it gets a nod from the army headquarters in Delhi. “The slain gunman, who was wearing Pakistani fatigues, is suspected to be a commando of the Pakistani army’s special services group (SSG),” he said. The BAT killed naik Sandip Jadhav and sepoy Savan Mane, both from Maharashtra. Hours before the attack, 31-member team of Pakistan rangers and BSF exchanged gifts and sweets at Chamliyal Mela in Samba district’s Ramgarh sector, 45km from Jammu.
