Himachal CM offers DSP post to woman cricketer

SHIM LA: Following in the foot steps of his Punjab counter part, Him ach al Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has offered woman cricketer Sushma Verma the post of a deputy superinten­dent of police in recognitio­n of her performanc­e in the ICC Women’ s Cricket World Cup in England.

Playing against Pakistan in the crucial match of the World Cup on July 2, 24-year-old wicket keeper-bats woman dished out her career best knock and scored 33 runs off 35 balls.

Talking to the media, the CM said the people of Himachal are very proud of Sushma Verma’s achievemen­ts. “The state government has offered her a DSP’s post in the Him ac hal police ,” said the CM. Sushm abe came the first woman cricket er from Him ac hal Pradesh to play for India in 2014. She used to play volleyball and hand ball in school before switching to cricket. Meanwhile, the Him ac hal Pradesh Cricket Associatio­n( HP CA) on Tuesday congratula­ted the team and hailed Sushma Verma for her achievemen­t in the tournament.
