GUJARAT MAN ARRESTED, ₹16L HAWALA MONEY SEIZED

JALANDHAR: The Jalandhar police have arrested a Gujaratbas­ed man and seized hawala money worth ₹15.50 lakh from his possession here on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Upinder Yadav (32) of Beas Nagar, Gujarat and had been living in Surya Enclave locality since two years.

In a press conference, one of the police officials said, “Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Manjinder Singh and his team while patrolling at Chogitti flyover stopped Upinder who was crossing the road carrying a white bag. When cops interrogat­ed, Upinder failed to answer.”

Later Upinder said, “I was working as an agent of hawala money and was going to deliver the money at different places on the instructio­n of a Mumbai based company.”

The Assistant commission­er of police (ACP) central Satinder Chadda said , “The case has been referred to the Enforcemen­t Directorat­e (ED) for further investigat­ion and a daily diary report (DDR) has been filed against the accused.”
