24% seats vacant, K’shetra varsity extends last date for applications
KURUKSHETRA: With around 24% of the total seats across 26 departments still vacant, the Kurukshetra University has extended the last date for submitting applications to August 29.
Deputy registrar (academics) Dr Jaiveer Singh said, “Yes, the last date for submitting applications has been extended to August 29 and now the candidates can apply without paying the late fee.”
As per the notification accessed by the Hindustan Times, at least 540 seats of the total 2,180 seats are still vacant.
The highest number of vacant seats is in MA (Business Economics) where out of 60 seats, only 19 have been taken so far.
As per sources in the university, the reasons behind the low turnout of applicants is that the university has lost its Grade-A accreditation from NAAC.
The other reason that is being stated is that this year, a common entrance exam was held for admission to seven universities in the state and most candidates did not show much interest in Kurukshetra University as they either got admission to universities of their choice or a university located close to their home.
When asked, deputy registrar Jaiveer Singh said, “We cannot give a particular reason for this but several seats remain vacant ever year and the last date will not be extended again.”
University vice-chancellor Prof KC Sharma could not be contacted for his comments but Dr Tejindra Sharma, director, public relations of the university, said, “The last date has been extended so that the students, who could not apply for admission for any reason could be given a chance.”
Asked, whether the Kurukshetra University has lost its popularity after losing NAAC grade A, he said, “This is not a parameter but the NAAC team will soon visit to the university in September.”
