Yuki, Prajnesh exit in US Open qualifiers

NEWYORK: India’s big hope Yuki Bhambri crashed out of the US Open men’s singles qualifiers with a three-set defeat to Japanese Go Soeda while Prajnesh Gunneswara­n also suffered a tame defeat here.

Bhambri suffered a 6-1, 1-6, 3-6 defeat at the hands of 22nd seed Japanese while the left-handed Prajnesh lost 1-6, 4-6 to Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann

WRESTLERS FAIL

PARIS: Shilpi missed out on a chance to enter the bronze medal play-off round of women’s 63kg after losing her repechage bout.

Shilpi went down to Henna Johansson of Sweden by a ‘Fall’ verdict in her repechage round.
