Cop who once nabbed Gounder caught accepting ₹20K bribe
TARNTARAN:A police sub-inspector, who once nabbed one of Punjab’s most-wanted gangster Vicky Gounder in December 2015, got stuck in a trap laid by the state vigilance bureau on Wednesday in Bhikhiwind, 30km from the district headquarters.
A team led by deputy superintendent of police (vigilance) Kawaldeep Kaur caught sub-inspector Bakshish Singh while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from Dilbag Singh of Macchike village in Khemkaran constituency of Tarn Taran.
Before arresting the accused, a melee ensued between the cop and vigilance team, video of which went viral on WhatsApp on Wednesday evening.
A vigilance bureau spokesperson said the sub-inspector, posted at civil lines, Tarn Taran, was caught following the complaint of Dilbag Singh.
“Dilbag had complained that the cop was demanding a bribe for vouching for him before a local court,” he said.
After verifying the information, a vigilance team laid a trap and arrested Bakshish while accepting the bribe from Dilbag, the spokesperson added.
“Bakshish had arrested Dil- bag with 2kg opium in April 2016. He was an assistant sub-inspector with CIA in Tarn Taran then. It during a hearing in the Dilbag’s case on September 9 at the court of additional sessions judge KK Jain when Bakshish demanded ₹1 lakh for giving statement in Dilbag’s favour,” the sources said.
According to the sources, the deal was later settled at ₹30,000 and Bakshish had already taken ₹10,000 from Dilbag.
A case under the Sections 7 and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Bakshish at the vigilance bureau police station in Amritsar.
