Rape bid on minor student: School principal removed

KARNAL: Amid strong protests over molestatio­n of a nine-yearold girl student by a sweeper at The Mil le ni um School in Pa nip at recently, the school management on Sunday removed principal Amita Kochhar.

The decision was taken as parents of about 1,000 students of the school have been sitting on a dharna outside the school building since September, a day after the incident took place.

The police had arrested accused Tarun Kumar two days after the incident, but the parents union have been demanding action against the principal, who was later booked under section 120 B of the IPC.

In a statement issued to the media, the school management said the decision was to remove Koch h ar following the formation of a special investigat­ion team to probe the case. The school authoritie­s assured all support to the police in investigat­ions and also appealed the parents to end their protest so that the school could be reopened.

Earlier, Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperso­n Jyoti Bainda held a meeting with the agitating parents and local police officials.

But the agitating parents alleged that the administra­tion was not taking the required action against the school principal. HTC
