IN PUBLIC INTEREST
Campaigning for the Gurdaspur parliamentary bypoll ended on Monday. It was observed that character assassination was the focus of the campaign. Major issues of public concern such as improvement in health services, sanitation, education standard and jobs were not raised by contesting candidates. However, at the fag end of the campaign, three major issues – the closure of industrial units in Batala, waterlogging in villages of Dinanagar and Pathankot’s railway crossing – were rightly highlighted by cabinet minister Brahm Mohindra during the campaign for the Congress candidate. These issues need immediate intervention of the state and central governments.
