CHANDIGARH: The high court on Wednesday put the Punjab government on notice on petition by an advocate alleging failure of the state government in preservation of Turi Bazar office of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries in Ferozepur.

The lawyer, HC Arora, had alleged that the hideout has been declared as protected monument but no arrangements have been made by state government for its preservation.

He told court that a contempt petition on the issue was disposed of by high court on October 17, 2016 with direction to Punjab to “make all efforts for preservation of the protected monument in terms of Section 6 of the Punjab Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964”.

The section man dates the government to sign an agreement with the owner of the concerned building for purpose of maintenance of the monument.

Arora had told the court that despite the lapse of about one year, the cultural department of Punjab has not executed any such agreement with owner of the said building.
