₹70,000, gold worth ₹3 lakh stolen from house in Tarn Taran

TARN TARAN: Some unidentifi­ed miscreants decamped with ₹70,000 and jewellery worth ₹3 lakh from a house at Focal Point in Tarn Taran on Sunday.

The house owner, Awanjit Singh, 51, said that the thieves have been caught in a footage of closed circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the street.

The footage was provided to the police for the identifica­tion and arrest of the accused.

“The miscreants committed the theft at around 2pm,” he said.

In his complaint with the police, the victim said that he is a photograph­er, and was at Moulsari Palace Tarn Taran for photograph­y of a marriage function at the time of the incident.

He said that other members of the family had gone to Sokhi Palace in Tarn Taran to attend a relative’s wedding.

“When I came back, I found the doors of three bedrooms open and cupboards in the rooms were broken,” he said.

“After checking everything, I found that jewellery worth ₹3 lakh including eight 40gm rings, two 30gm necklaces, a 20gm chain, four 35gm earrings, etc, and ₹70,000 were missing from the cupboards,” he said.

Bus stand police station assistant sub inspector (ASI) Sanjeevan Singh said that a case under Sections 454 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonme­nt) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against unidentifi­ed persons.

ARMED ROBBERS LOOT MOBILE, PURSE FROM STUDENT IN PATTI

TARN TARAN: Two bikeborne armed men looted a motorbike, a mobile and a purse containing ₹500 from a student at gunpoint near Kacha Pakka village, 35km from the district headquarte­rs, on Monday.

The victim was on his way to attend computer classes in Patti.

Victim Shiv Kumar, 20, of Margindpur­a villag, said he had been attending computer classes from a Patti-based computer centre.

On Monday, when he reached near Kacha Pakka village, two bike-borne miscreants, they had covered their faces, way laid him.

“The pillion rider pointed a gun at me and threatened to kill me if I raised an alarm,” he said. He said that the robbers took away his mobile, purse and a Hero deluxe bike.

“I have lodged a complaint at Kacha Pakka police post,” he said. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Dilbag Singh said probe is on and a case will be registered against the accused.
