AAP, LIP ask govt to recover water royalty from Haryana, Delhi
CHANDIGARH: The opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its ally Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) on Tuesday asked the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government to demand royalty on water from Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.
AAP and LIP legislators, led by leader of opposition in Punjab assembly Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who held a protest in front of Punjab civil secretariat, said the state government should implement the resolution passed by Punjab Vidhan Sabha last year.
Khaira said during the last government’s regime, Bains brothers had raised the issue of sharing Punjab water with Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi and the Vidhan Sabha then passed the resolution unanimously to demand royalty.
LIP president Simarjeet Bains said since 1965, Punjab had been sharing 12 million acre feet water that amounts to more than ₹16 lakh cr, but no government had taken up issue with these states. HTC
