MOGA : A pack of stray dogs mauled a seven-year-old boyto death at Dhurkot Ransiah village in Moga district on Saturday. Harman Singh was flying a kite in the fields near his house when the dogs attacked him.

This is second such incident in the state this year. Last month, a 10-year-old was killed by stray dogs in Nabha.

A woman passerby who noticed Harman being attacked by dogs alerted the villagers, but before they could reach the spot, the boy had been killed.

Police said the body has been kept in the mortuary of the civil hospital and inquest proceedings have d been initiated under section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

According to data that the Punjab health and family welfare department had compiled for 2016 and 2017, the state saw an average of 300 dog-bite cases a day in these two years.
