SHAKE OFF THE COLONIAL HANGOVER

It is unfortunate that Tamil Nadu Police brutalised a father and son for keeping their shop open beyond permitted hours. The suspension of the police personnel responsible for their death while in police custody is not adequate. The Indian police needs to adopt the attitude of a fair umpire who does not hesitate to show the yellow card, but also has the mental and physical wherewithal to overawe a recalcitrant player. The Indian police needs to be reformed so that we can get rid of the colonial mindset and organisational pattern that it follows to this day.
