17-year-old rape victim kills herself

A 17-year-old rape victim killed herself at a shelter home in Bhopal on Wednesday, officials said on Thursday. The girl consumed sleeping pills at a state government-run shelter home and died at a hospital. “On Monday afternoon, the girl consumed sleeping pills to end her life. She was rushed to the hospital where she died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment. After post mortem, the body has been handed over to family members,” said Sai Krishna Thota, superintendent of police, Bhopal (south). The teenager’s family has accused shelter home officials of harassing the girls – charges denied by the facility. Following the girl’s death, Bhopal district collector Avinash Lavaniya has removed the superintendent of the shelter home and ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter.
