Govt to treat 1-year absence from duty as resignation

-

CHANDIGARH: Punjab government employees who have been absent from duty for a year in a row without any sanctioned leave will now be deemed as ‘resigned’.

Instructions in this regard were issued by the finance department on Tuesday.

An official spokesman said such employees would not be allowed to rejoin government service. He said the competent authority would have to issue immediate orders to terminate services of such absentees as per rules, failing which the authority concerned would be held responsible. He said this strict action has been taken because in such cases not only the discipline of the office is in disarray but there is also disruption in the delivery of public services .

“Such behaviour of these absentees is against the spirit of public service,” the spokesman said.
