Pun­jab inks MoU with UK govt to pro­mote skill de­vel­op­ment

The Pun­jab and United King­dom gov­ern­ments signed a mem­o­ran­dum of un­der­stand­ing (MoU) on Thurs­day to pro­mote skill de­vel­op­ment among the youths of the state.

An­drew Ayre, Bri­tish deputy high com­mis­sioner, Chandigarh, and G Va­jralingam, ad­di­tional chief sec­re­tary, tech­ni­cal ed­u­ca­tion and in­dus­trial train­ing, signed the MoU in the pres­ence of­tech­ni­cal ed­u­ca­tion min­is­ter Cha­ran­jit Singh Channi and Pun­jab Skill De­vel­op­ment Mis­sion ad­viser Dr San­deep Singh Kaura.

Channi said that the state gov­ern­ment is set­ting up in­ter­na­tional skill train­ing cen­tres in Pun­jab for pro­vid­ing qual­ity skill train­ing to Pun­jabi youth for overseas em­ploy­ment.

The UK deputy high com­mis­sioner has as­sured a fa­cil­i­ta­tive role in build­ing link­ages be­tween gov­ern­ment de­part­ments, Pun­jab Skill De­vel­op­ment Mis­sion and UK skill providers, he said.

He said the gov­ern­ment has been work­ing on a plan to set up Tech­ni­cal Ed­u­ca­tion and Skill De­vel­op­ment Col­lege in the UK where Pun­jabi stu­dents will would be ed­u­cated and trained by UK train­ers. Ayre said this is the first-of-its kind MoU signed with Pun­jab gov­ern­ment.
