Water supply dept top defaulter in Doaba
JALANDHAR The public health department, which is the biggest power defaulters from past many years, continues to retain its position as no action has been taken yet by the authorities to clear the pendency.
All four public health departments of Doaba region are also known as the department of water supply and sanitation.
They collectively owe ₹113 crore to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
As per the report by the PSPCL north zone office, which has four districts; Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, and Nawanshahr under its jurisdiction, states that out of 35 government departments including irrigation, government hospitals/ dispensaries and food, water supply and the health department stands out to be the top defaulters.
Even after repeated notices being served by the PSPCL, the government departments have failed to clear the dues.
Out of the public health offices in all four districts, Hoshiarpur records the highest pendency of ₹66.25 crore with Nawanshahr branch being at the second position.
The power department easily disconnects the power supply of the private enterprises if they fail to clear the pendency.
But it is not the same when it comes to government departments. All the 35 government departments in four districts of Doaba region collectively owes ₹134.12 crores.
