Akalis to gherao assembly on Day 1 of budget session
CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in its core committee meeting on Wednesday decided to gherao the Vidhan Sabha on the opening day of the budget session in March, to protest against the government’s failure to give farm debt waiver as promised.
It was also decided that the party will accord a separate welcome to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who is expected to visit the Golden Temple later this month. The state government and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have also decided to welcome Trudeau.
In the meeting, chaired by SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, it was also decided to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in 2019. The SGPC will give all support to the state government in organising a mega event, said SAD spokesman Daljit Cheema.
