Travel agents to face ac­tion for ads sans reg­is­tra­tion num­ber

JA­LAND­HAR: STRICT le­gal ac­tion will be taken against the travel agents, who do not pub­lish their reg­is­tra­tion num­ber in any sort of ad­ver­tise­ment is­sued by them, deputy com­mis­sioner (DC) Varinder Ku­mar Sharma said on Mon­day.

Sharma said it is manda­tory for every travel agent to pub­lish their reg­is­tra­tion num­ber in ad­ver­tise­ments is­sued by them. He said, “Any ad­ver­tise­ment is­sued by the travel agents in any medium whether in print, elec­tronic, on walls or ve­hi­cles, should carry the reg­is­tra­tion num­ber of the travel agent.”

“Lax­ity in this re­gard on part of travel agents will not be tol­er­ated at any cost and strict ac­tion will be taken against the vi­o­la­tor by the dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tion,” he added.

The pub­lisher of the ad­ver­tise­ment will have to ver­ify and re­tain the copy of reg­is­tra­tion cer­tifi­cate fail­ing which ac­tion will also be taken against them.

Sharma also ap­pealed pub­lish­ers and broad­cast­ers to first ask for a copy of reg­is­tra­tion cer­tifi­cate of travel agents be­fore pub­lish­ing and broadcasting their ad­ver­tise­ments. The DC said the aim is to save peo­ple from the clutches of unau­tho­rised travel agents.
