DP Vats files nomination for RS

CHANDIGARH: Lt Gen DP Vats (retd), who has been fielded by the BJP for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Haryana, filed his nomination papers in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday.

Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar along with his cabinet colleagues accompanie­d Vats for filing the nomination papers.

When the Vidhan Sabha proceeding­s were underway, the CM introduced Vats to the House as he was sitting in the guest galley of the speaker. Khattar said the BJP candidate was set to be elected unopposed as only one candidate has filed the nomination papers.

The ruling BJP has 47 MLAS in the 90-member state assembly. The INLD has 19 members, the Congress 17, the BSP and the SAD one each. There are five independen­t MLAS also.

Lt Gen Vats has served as chairman of the Haryana Public Service Commission during the previous Congress government.

The biennial elections would be held on March 23 and Monday was the last date for filing nomination­s.
