Debt-ridden Bathinda farm leader ends life
BATHINDA: A farmer Manjit Singh, 45, of Bhucho Khurda village, who was block president of the Nathana union of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-ugrahan) died during treatment at a private hospital on Friday night. He was under a debt of ₹7 lakh and had consumed poison on January 26.
According to the Bathinda Cantonment police, his son Sukhjit Singh, who is pursuing bachelors in law from an institution in Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, has given a statement that his father was under stress due to debt. Police have conducted inquest proceedings.
