Tabu has acted in many award-winning films, playing author-backed roles in her three decade long career. The actor has always maintained her personal space and balanced both her private and professional life successfully. Since many actors are dabbling into various areas of film-making such as production and direction, ask her if she intends to go behind the cameras, and she says, “Never. I am one of those people who is not interested in taking up any additional responsibilities. I hate it and I am not good at it. I think the director has a huge responsibility — right from getting the script in place, the writers and the entire cast to the producer, and then releasing the film. Is janam mein maine jitna kaam kiya hai utna maine dus janam ke barabar kar liya hai (The amount of work I’ve done in this lifetime is equivalent to the work of ten lifetimes) (laughs). I never intended to work so much.” Ask her if she can easily detach from the characters and their worlds after she enacts them, the Golmaal Again actor says, “It depends. Sometimes you take back some characters and sometimes you don’t. Some you relate to and some you don’t. A part of you really becomes that (the character) even if you don’t like them as people. It’s an internal process.”
