Cer­tain tests (the fre­quency of which will be pre­scribed by the di­a­betol­o­gist) are: Hba1c test Serum cre­a­ti­nine and urine mi­croal­bu­min­uria Fast­ing lipid pro­file Liver func­tion tests Fun­do­scopic ex­am­i­na­tion for retinopa­thy En­gage in reg­u­lar phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity for at least half an hour a day. It can be brisk walk­ing, cy­cling or swim­ming. As­sign a fixed time to any ac­tiv­ity but pri­ori­tise it. Make sim­ple pro-health life­style changes. Take the stair­case in­stead of el­e­va­tors, walk down short to medium dis­tances in­stead of us­ing trans­porta­tion Re­duce stress lev­els by med­i­tat­ing or be­ing in­volved in hob­bies Get proper sleep of seven to eight hours Re­duce your weight if you are obese. Even a 5% to 7% weight loss can have dra­matic ben­e­fits Take care of your feet. Avoid walk­ing bare­foot and in­spect them reg­u­larly for any cuts or bruises.
