Not getting the right job profile

Hindustan Times (Chandigarh) - Guide - - JOBFUNDAS -

I am an engineering graduate with specialisation in electronics and communication. I have not been able to secure a job through campus placements. I have come across so many BPO jobs which have ‘technical help desk’ as the profile. I was a bit confused while taking up a BPO job because it wouldn’t add to my experience if I switch to the information technology sector afterwards. Which other fields can I get into?

It is true that that the ITES sector looks at job skills and profiles completely different from that in the IT sector. You have two choices as of now, either you continue to look for jobs in the IT sector or pick up a job in the ITES sector. Your chances of getting a job of your liking in the IT sector as a fresher are relatively less if you have not landed a campus job. However, you can try. In a BPO your job in the technical help desk will tend to be routine and standardised, but it is still a job and will pay you a salary. The choice is yours. The author has more than 30 years of varied experience, including as head of the HR consulting practice at Arthur Andersen, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young.
