Two separate controversies erupted earlier this year when the turbans of two Sikh gentlemen were forcibly removed. In the first incident, a protesting pharmacist from Punjab was at the receiving end when cops removed his turban. There was a huge uproar over the incident and the government eventually suspended a superintendent of police (SP) and a station house officer.
In the second incident, head constable Balwinder Singh was at the receiving end when an undertrial, enraged over Singh refusing to allow him to meet his fiancée, removed his turban and burnt it.
The accused, Amit Kamboj, ended up with another case being slapped against him.
