Mohali gets a stay on corporation status

Hindustan Times (Chandigarh) - Live - - EDUCATION -

Unfortunately the town could not be converted into a municipal corporation this year.

The Punjab and Haryana high court stayed the notification upgrading Mohali municipal council to a corporation on a petition filed by former councillors Manjit Singh Sethi and Manmohan Singh Lang. The petitioners had sought the quashing of the notifications issued by the state government on January 7 and 10. The two

had alleged that the state government had turned the town into a corporation under political pressure and in view of the Assembly elections.

The petition said the government had dissolved the municipal council without following any specified criteria.
