3 held for Dr Kaura’s mur­der

JE at PGI and two oth­ers killed the car­di­ol­o­gist for money

■ SAS NA­GAR: Dr Deepak Kaura's "weak­ness" for women made him the ideal bait for the three ac­cused ar­rested for his mur­der on Fri­day, as they wanted to black­mail him and ex­tort money from him. How­ever, the plan went awry and led to Kaura's mur­der due to over­dose of seda­tives.

The po­lice stated this af­ter ar­rest­ing Vishal, a JE posted at the PGI; Deepak Sharma, a res­i­dent of Panchkula, and his wife Honey, alias Jy­otika, who was used as a “honey trap” to lure Kaura. They have been ar­rested for plot­ting and ex­e­cut­ing the mur­der of Dr Kaura.

"The ac­cused have con­fessed that they had ini­tially planned to black­mail Dr Kaura and ex­tract money from him, but when this did not work, they planned to kid­nap him and seek ran­som from the fam­ily, though even­tu­ally they had con­sid­ered killing Kaura out of fear of be­ing ar­rested,” said SAS Na­gar SSP Gur­preet Singh Bhullar.

The three, in or­der to make quick money, tar­geted Dr Kaura and had hatched a con­spir­acy in Oc­to­ber to black­mail him.

As part of the con­spir­acy, Honey came in con­tact with Dr Kaura in Oc­to­ber, in­tro­duc­ing her­self as Jy­otika Singh. As ex­pected, the two be­came friends and used to meet fre­quently.

Ac­cord­ing to the plan, Sharma and Vishal dropped Honey at Sec­tor 19, Chandi­garh, on De­cem­ber 20. She was sup­posed to bring Dr Kaura to her house in Panchkula.

Later, Honey and Dr Kaura went to Sukhna Lake, from where, on re­ceiv­ing an emer­gency call, Dr Kaura went back to Sec­tor 19, while Honey waited in a cof­fee shop.

Later, Dr Kaura picked her up andwent­to­hishouse.af­ter­spend­ing a few min­utes there, they left for Honey's house, where Vishal and­shar­maw­e­re­al­ready­wait­ing.
