JE at PGI and two others killed the cardiologist for money
■ SAS NAGAR: Dr Deepak Kaura's "weakness" for women made him the ideal bait for the three accused arrested for his murder on Friday, as they wanted to blackmail him and extort money from him. However, the plan went awry and led to Kaura's murder due to overdose of sedatives.
The police stated this after arresting Vishal, a JE posted at the PGI; Deepak Sharma, a resident of Panchkula, and his wife Honey, alias Jyotika, who was used as a “honey trap” to lure Kaura. They have been arrested for plotting and executing the murder of Dr Kaura.
"The accused have confessed that they had initially planned to blackmail Dr Kaura and extract money from him, but when this did not work, they planned to kidnap him and seek ransom from the family, though eventually they had considered killing Kaura out of fear of being arrested,” said SAS Nagar SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

As part of the conspiracy, Honey came in contact with Dr Kaura in October, introducing herself as Jyotika Singh. As expected, the two became friends and used to meet frequently.
According to the plan, Sharma and Vishal dropped Honey at Sector 19, Chandigarh, on December 20. She was supposed to bring Dr Kaura to her house in Panchkula.
Later, Honey and Dr Kaura went to Sukhna Lake, from where, on receiving an emergency call, Dr Kaura went back to Sector 19, while Honey waited in a coffee shop.
Later, Dr Kaura picked her up andwenttohishouse.afterspending a few minutes there, they left for Honey's house, where Vishal andsharmawerealreadywaiting.
