Scribe assault case: doc sent to judicial custody
■ AMBALA: Duty magistrate Vivek Yadav remanded doctor Arun Dalal in judicial custody here on Friday for assaulting a journalist.
Hindi daily reporter Sanmeet Singh Thind alleged that the doctor accompanied by unidentified persons used abusive language and also pointed a revolver at him. He alleged that Dalal, in an inebriated condition, assaulted him while he was taking meals in the hospital canteen along with a friend late in the evening on December 25.
The doctor was arrested after the local journalists protested, demanding his arrest and submitted a memorandum to police commissioner AK Dhull.
The Baldev Nagar police had booked Dalal under Sections 323 and 506 of the IPC and under the Arms Act.
Sources said the court would take up Dalal's bail application on December 31.
On December 29, health minister Rao Narinder Singh had ordered the doctor's transfer to Panchkula and a high-level panel was formed to inquire into his alleged acts of indiscipline.
