Scribe as­sault case: doc sent to ju­di­cial cus­tody

■ AM­BALA: Duty mag­is­trate Vivek Ya­dav re­manded doc­tor Arun Dalal in ju­di­cial cus­tody here on Fri­day for as­sault­ing a jour­nal­ist.

Hindi daily reporter San­meet Singh Thind al­leged that the doc­tor ac­com­pa­nied by uniden­ti­fied per­sons used abu­sive lan­guage and also pointed a re­volver at him. He al­leged that Dalal, in an ine­bri­ated con­di­tion, as­saulted him while he was tak­ing meals in the hos­pi­tal can­teen along with a friend late in the evening on De­cem­ber 25.

The doc­tor was ar­rested af­ter the lo­cal jour­nal­ists protested, de­mand­ing his ar­rest and sub­mit­ted a mem­o­ran­dum to po­lice com­mis­sioner AK Dhull.

The Baldev Na­gar po­lice had booked Dalal un­der Sec­tions 323 and 506 of the IPC and un­der the Arms Act.

Sources said the court would take up Dalal's bail ap­pli­ca­tion on De­cem­ber 31.

On De­cem­ber 29, health min­is­ter Rao Narinder Singh had or­dered the doc­tor's trans­fer to Panchkula and a high-level panel was formed to in­quire into his al­leged acts of in­dis­ci­pline.
