Penalty on mobile service providers
AMBALA: The Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring ( TERM) Cell imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 each on mobile service providers, Videocon Telecommunication and Tata Teleservices, here on Friday for lapse in mobile telephony.
Deputy commissioner of police Shashank Anand said it was the first instance when the penalty had been imposed on service providers. He said a complaint was lodged with the police against mobile phone SIM card retailers Yogesh Kumar Bhutani of Bhutani Mobile World and Sumit Chugh of Manish General Store for not adhering to the DOT guidelines.
They didn't properly verify the antecedents of new customers and issued both the SIMS on fake Ids.
An FIR has also been registered at Ambala Sadar police station.
