■ CHANDI­GARH: A cen­tury by Navneet Singh helped Pun­jab tot up 587 in their Cooch Be­har Tro­phy un­der-19 match against hosts Hy­der­abad on Fri­day.

Pun­jab, who re­sumed at an overnight score of 309 for three, lost both the cen­tu­ri­ons from the pre­vi­ous day in quick suc­ces­sion —Mo­hit Handa and Sachin So­hal

added just five and 13 runs to their per­sonal scores.

But there­after, Navneet stitched a fruit­ful part­ner­ship for the sixth wicket with Manin­der Singh.

The lat­ter was trapped in front by Akash Bhan­dari but not be­fore he had played a solid knock of 61 off 100 balls, with six hits to the fence.

Mean­while, Navneet went on to com­plete a work­man­like cen­tury.

Even­tu­ally, a mix-up re­sulted in him be­ing run out for 117 off 155 balls, with two sixes and nine bound­aries.

Vi­nay Chaud­hary (41) and Sandeep Sharma (27) helped boost Pun­jab's to­tal to nearly 600.

For Hy­der­abad, the main wicket taker was K Sabr­ish with fig­ures of four for 136.

The home side got off to a dis­as­trous start with the bat, opener Ro­hit Ki­la­gani cas­tled by medium pacer Ka­mal Passi for 2.

Hanuma Vi­hari and Rayan Amuri stead­ied the ship, and were un­beaten on 59 (98 balls, 12 fours) and 37 (71 balls, four fours, two sixes), re­spec­tively, at stumps with Hy­der­abad's to­tal at 109 for 1.
