200 stu­dents rally to con­serve oil

CHANDI­GARH: Hin­dus­tan Petroleum, Yu­vsatta, Peace Club of Gov­ern­ment Model High School-22, New Public School and Moti Ram Arya Sr Sec School, Chandi­garh, or­gan­ised a bi­cy­cle rally from Pa­rade Ground to Sukhna Lake on Mon­day.

San­tosh Kumar, di­rec­tor Depart­ment of En­vi­ron­ment, flagged off the rally that was or­gan­ised to pro­mote the con­cept of green liv­ing and oil con­ser­va­tion on Mar­tyr­dom Day of Ma­hatma Gandhi.

About 200 school­child­ren on bi­cy­cles car­ry­ing plac­ards of 'Oil Con­ser­va­tion' par­tic­i­pated in the rally. Giv­ing in­for­ma­tion about the ini­tia­tive, MP Rane of Hin­dus­tan Petroleum said the oil in­dus­try un­der­takes such ini­tia­tives to em­pha­sise the im­por­tance of con­ser­va­tion of petroleum prod­ucts and en­vi­ron­ment pro­tec­tion. ■ said each cy­clist leads to one less ve­hi­cle, less noise and more park­ing space. Be­sides, cy­cling is healthy, en­joy­able and eco­nom­i­cal. The rally ended at Sukhna Lake with a quiz on oil con­ser­va­tion where Pramod Sharma, Yu­vsatta co­or­di­na­tor hon­oured the win­ners.
