Wreath-lay­ing cer­e­mony marks Mar­tyrs’ Day at war me­mo­rial

CHANDI­GARH: A wreath-lay­ing cer­e­mony was held at the Chandi­garh War Me­mo­rial to mark Mar­tyrs’ Day on Mon­day.

Pun­jab gov­er­nor and Chandi­garh ad­min­is­tra­tor Shivraj Patil and gen­eral of­fi­cer com­mand­ing-in-chief (GOCIN-C), Western Com­mand, Lt Gen­eral SR Ghosh, paid homage to the mar­tyrs at the me­mo­rial.

Se­nior mil­i­tary of­fi­cers of the Western Com­mand, of­fi­cers of the Chandi­garh ad­min­is­tra­tion, vet­er­ans and me­di­a­per­sons were present on the oc­ca­sion. The wreath-lay­ing cer­e­mony co­in­cided with a two-minute si­lence in mem­ory of the mar­tyrs.

Patil re­marked in the vis­i­tor book, “For our to­mor­row, they sac­ri­ficed their to­day. We salute the mar­tyrs and re­mem­ber them with re­spect.”

Sign­ing the vis­i­tor book, Lt Gen Ghosh re­marked, “In re­mem­brance of our gal­lant sol­diers who gave their to­day for their fel­low cit­i­zens to­mor­row.” Some civil dig­ni­taries also laid wreaths.

The 65th Mar­tyr­dom Day of Ma­hatma Gandhi was also ob­served on Mon­day.
