Wreath-laying ceremony marks Martyrs’ Day at war memorial
CHANDIGARH: A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Chandigarh War Memorial to mark Martyrs’ Day on Monday.
Punjab governor and Chandigarh administrator Shivraj Patil and general officer commanding-in-chief (GOCIN-C), Western Command, Lt General SR Ghosh, paid homage to the martyrs at the memorial.
Senior military officers of the Western Command, officers of the Chandigarh administration, veterans and mediapersons were present on the occasion. The wreath-laying ceremony coincided with a two-minute silence in memory of the martyrs.
Patil remarked in the visitor book, “For our tomorrow, they sacrificed their today. We salute the martyrs and remember them with respect.”
Signing the visitor book, Lt Gen Ghosh remarked, “In remembrance of our gallant soldiers who gave their today for their fellow citizens tomorrow.” Some civil dignitaries also laid wreaths.
The 65th Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi was also observed on Monday.
