Cops’ children take the VIP brats route
■ CHANDIGARH: The wards of Chandigarh and Punjab Police personnel are increasingly getting into trouble. At least three incidents involving the sons of Chandigarh and Punjab police officials have been witnessed in the past week.
Dealing with VIP brats has always been a problem with the police. But, now the children of police officials indulging in lawlessness are fast becoming a menace for the local cops.
The latest incident is of the son of a Chandigarh cop who was involved in an accident on Sunday night.
Punit Soni of Sector 20, alleged that Vikram, who was driving a Cruize car (CH-01AD-0095), rammed into his car.
Vikram is the son of a constable with the Chandigarh Police.
The complainant alleged that Vikram, resident of Sector 44, along with Jatinder Kumar of Sector 51, rammed into his car (CH-01AF-5612) and later thrashed him at the Sector 20 and 30 light point.
Soni also alleged that the police were deliberately delaying the case. He alleged that though Vikram was under the influence of liquor, no medical examination was conducted.
A case under Sections 279, 323, 427 and 506 of the IPC has been registered at Sector-19 police station. The accused have been arrested in this case.
In another incident, on January 25, the son of Punjab ADGP Mohammed Mustafa made the headlines. Akeel Akhtar Mustafa (21) had reportedly manhandled a Punjab Police head constable at the Circuit House in Sector 39. A senior police officer said preventive action under Section 107/150 of the CRPC was taken on the spot.
The next day, on Republic Day, a major security lapse on the part of Chandigarh Police came to the fore, when a motorcyclist, who is the son of a Chandigarh cop, managed to break the police cordon near the Parade Ground in Sector 17.
The police said the motorcyclist identified as Shamsher Singh of Sector 70 and the son of a police inspector, managed to enter the restricted entry zone by overtaking the police cavalcade.
When the police tried to nab him, he rammed his motorcycle into the barricades near the green gate of Parade Ground.
