Lt Gen Dayal cremated
■ PANCHKULA: Lt Gen RS Dayal (retd) was cremated with military honours at the Electric Crematorium, Sector 25, on Monday. Dayal breathed his last on Sunday evening at Command Hospital, Chandimandir. He was suffering from prostate cancer and was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), general officer commanding-in-chief (GOC-INC), Western Command, Lt Gen SR Ghosh and chief of staff (COS), Western Command, Lt Gen Baljeet Singh laid wreaths on his body.
Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the GOC-IN-C, Southern Command, GOC-IN-C Army Training Command, Colonel of the Rajput Regiment and Colonel of the Para Special Force.
A military guard of honour was offered with reversed gun salute and firing gunshots in the air. Buglers then sounded the last post to bid farewell to Dayal. A number of serving and retired military officers and

Dayal’s relatives were present.
His family said the antim ardaas would be performed at Gurdwara Sahib, Sector 7, Panchkula, on February 5.
The 83-year-old Maha Vir Chakra awardee was also the former Lt Governor of Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Dayal was awarded the MVC after he displayed immense courage in the India-pakistan War of 1965.
