Filling of two secretary-level posts to be postponed again
■ CHANDIGARH: The much-awaited posting of two senior IAS officers against the newly created secretary-level posts in the UT administration is set to be delayed again.
The reason this time is the different kind of elections being held in some of the states and cities being served by the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre IAS officers. Pertinently, of these, the assembly elections in Goa were held on January 28.
Besides, elections for the Municipal Corporation Delhi (MCD) are likely to be held in the next couple of months.
Interestingly, in the beginning of 2012, senior officials of the UT administration had said the two secretary-level officers would join the administration by the end of this month. However, with just a day left for the month to end, the administration hasn’t received any communiqué from the ministry of home affairs regarding appointment of the new officers.
A senior official of the UT administration, on the condition of anonymity, said the postings had been delayed as they could lead to reshuffling of officials in some states, where elections are being held.
“However, the administration is shortly going to approach the Central government to delink the posting process from the ongoing and forthcoming elections,” he added.
Citing that the volume of administrative work in the city was swelling with each passing year, the Chandigarh administration had demanded new secretary-level officers for smooth functioning of the administration, the proposal, which was accepted by the ministry of home affairs a few months ago.
Commenting on the issue, KK Sharma, advisor to the administrator, UT, said, “Although the proposal in this regard had been approved a long time ago, we haven’t received any fresh orders. It may take a few more weeks for the new officers to join the administration.”
