A senior official of the UT administration, on the condition of anonymity, said the postings had been delayed as they could lead to reshuffling of officials in some states, where elections are being held.

Citing that the volume of administrative work in the city was swelling with each passing year, the Chandigarh administration had demanded new secretary-level officers for smooth functioning of the administration, the proposal, which was accepted by the ministry of home affairs a few months ago.

Commenting on the issue, KK Sharma, advisor to the administrator, UT, said, “Although the proposal in this regard had been approved a long time ago, we haven’t received any fresh orders. It may take a few more weeks for the new officers to join the administration.”
