SAS NAGAR: Next time you rent out your house, get the verification of the tenant done so that you do not end up losing your property.
A gang is operating in SAS Nagar, who take premises on rent and later using muscle power sell the property at throwaway prices. The trend came to light after the police on Wednesday arrested a property dealer from Bathinda, Varinder Singh, who is a member of the gang that move in as tenants and later after terming the property as disputed sell it off at throwaway prices.
Neeraj Sen, who resides in Chandigarh, had made a complaint to the police in March this year, alleging that his tenant had illegally occupied his house at Sector 69, SAS Nagar.
In his complaint, Neeraj alleged that he had given an annexe of his house on rent to one Karan Singh. He added that he got a shock when the tenant along with about 10 persons had illegally occupied the other portion of the house.
On basis of the complaint, the police had registered an FIR on April 30, but the accused absconded after putting locks on the house.
“We raided the premises once again and arrested Varinder Singh, who revealed that he along with Karan Singh used to take properties on rent and later sell them at throwaway prices after terming it as disputed,” said Bharat Bhushan, SHO, Phase 8, police station.
The police are yet to arrest other people involved in the case and are investigating how many more people have been duped by the gang.
