CHANDIGARH: General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOCin-C), Western Command, Lt Gen SR Ghosh unveiled the ‘Infantry Statue in Victory Mode’ at the Shakti Dwar (main gate of Western Command) on Wednesday.

Lt Gen Ghosh also gave away Army Commander’s Commendation Card to Abninder Singh Grewal, the manufacturer of the statue.

The main entrance to the Western Command had for years been known as ‘Tank Traffic Check Post (TCP)’.

In 2010, soon after assuming command, Lt Gen Ghosh decided to convert this entrance into a visible symbol of the military might of the Western Army.

The gate was accordingly re- christened as ‘Shakti Dwar’.

The two captured Pakistan Patton tanks with guns lowered were replaced by Vijayant tanks with their guns raised proudly — symbolising the strike arm of the mechanised formations of the Western Army - the 2 Corps.
