CHANDI­GARH: The san­i­ta­tion wing of the Chandi­garh Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion or­gan­ised an aware­ness cam­paign-cum-clean­li­ness drive at Sec­tor 10 on Wed­nes­day.

The safaikaram­charis took out a rally to spread aware­ness among the res­i­dents by car­ry­ing plac­ards, de­pict­ing the mes­sage for res­i­dents to co­op­er­ate in sus­tain­ing the san­i­ta­tion of the area. They also in­sisted the res­i­dents not to lit­ter streets or open places in or­der to main­tain the san­i­ta­tion of their area.

The cam­paign was in ad­di­tion to the reg­u­lar san­i­ta­tion with spe­cial em­pha­sis on the clean­li­ness of back lanes at the sec­tor, by de­ploy­ing 11 ad­di­tional safaikaram­charis in small groups un­der the close su­per­vi­sion of the se­nior in­spec­torate staff for get­ting the public places swept.

Me­chan­i­cal road sweep­ers, dumper plac­ers, trac­tor trol­leys and cy­cle rick­shaw carts were de­ployed for sweep­ing, lift­ing road­side garbage con­tain­ers or hor­ti­cul­ture waste etc.
