UT launches mobile app on tourist spots
CHANDIGARH: To mark the ongoing tourism week celebrations, the UT administration on Friday launched a mobile application providing information about the city.
The application ‘Chandigarh City Guide’ was launched by UT adviser KK Sharma at a function organised by the department of information technology. UT secretary, information technology, Prerna Puri informed that the application was first of its kind in the northern region developed by a government department. She said: “The mobile application is an interactive pocket guide which would provide all the information required by a tourist.”
The application provides information related to the city, including historical background, places of tourist interest, hotels, restaurants, events and selected services like cabs, hospitals, airport, railway station and police helpline numbers. Besides that the application contains features like facility for dialing the numbers from within the application, information about distance, route and driving time from present location integrated with Google map. The application is available for download on Chandigarh administration website.
Talking to mediapersons, UT secretary, tourism, DK Tiwari said the application would act as a handy tool for tourists. He further added that they were in the process of adding information on tourist spots of SAS Nagar and Panchkula as well.
CITCO general manager (tourism) AK Malhotra said the application is very user friendly and free of cost. Director, information and technology, Tanvi Garg maintained the mobile application would act as a friendly interface for tourists.
