UT launches mo­bile app on tourist spots

CHANDI­GARH: To mark the on­go­ing tourism week cel­e­bra­tions, the UT ad­min­is­tra­tion on Fri­day launched a mo­bile ap­pli­ca­tion pro­vid­ing in­for­ma­tion about the city.

The ap­pli­ca­tion ‘Chandi­garh City Guide’ was launched by UT ad­viser KK Sharma at a func­tion or­gan­ised by the depart­ment of in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy. UT sec­re­tary, in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy, Pr­erna Puri in­formed that the ap­pli­ca­tion was first of its kind in the north­ern re­gion de­vel­oped by a gov­ern­ment depart­ment. She said: “The mo­bile ap­pli­ca­tion is an in­ter­ac­tive pocket guide which would pro­vide all the in­for­ma­tion re­quired by a tourist.”

The ap­pli­ca­tion pro­vides in­for­ma­tion re­lated to the city, in­clud­ing his­tor­i­cal back­ground, places of tourist in­ter­est, ho­tels, restau­rants, events and se­lected ser­vices like cabs, hos­pi­tals, air­port, rail­way sta­tion and po­lice helpline num­bers. Be­sides that the ap­pli­ca­tion con­tains fea­tures like fa­cil­ity for di­al­ing the num­bers from within the ap­pli­ca­tion, in­for­ma­tion about dis­tance, route and driv­ing time from present lo­ca­tion in­te­grated with Google map. The ap­pli­ca­tion is avail­able for down­load on Chandi­garh ad­min­is­tra­tion web­site.

Talk­ing to me­di­a­per­sons, UT sec­re­tary, tourism, DK Ti­wari said the ap­pli­ca­tion would act as a handy tool for tourists. He fur­ther added that they were in the process of adding in­for­ma­tion on tourist spots of SAS Na­gar and Panchkula as well.

CITCO gen­eral man­ager (tourism) AK Malhotra said the ap­pli­ca­tion is very user friendly and free of cost. Di­rec­tor, in­for­ma­tion and tech­nol­ogy, Tanvi Garg main­tained the mo­bile ap­pli­ca­tion would act as a friendly in­ter­face for tourists.
