Pow­er­com JE held for tak­ing bribe

SAS NA­GAR: The vig­i­lance bureau on Fri­day ar­rested a ju­nior en­gi­neer (JE) of Pun­jab State Power Cor­po­ra­tion Lim­ited (PSPCL) posted at Kharar while ac­cept­ing il­le­gal grat­i­fi­ca­tion for shift­ing a transformer.

The ac­cused has been iden­ti­fied as Bal­jeet Singh. He was booked un­der var­i­ous sec­tions of the Preven­tion of Cor­rup­tion Act on the com­plaint of Ga­gan­deep, a res­i­dent of Phase 7 in SAS Na­gar, who al­leged that the ac­cused had de­manded a bribe of Rs 20,000 to shift a transformer.

In his com­plaint, Ga­gan­deep al­leged that he owned land in Jan­jheri vil­lage and was con­struct­ing few shops on it, but as there was a transformer nearby so he urged the depart­ment to shift it.

Ga­gan­deep al­leged that to get the transformer shifted Bal­jeet Singh de­manded a bribe of Rs 20,000 even when he had paid all req­ui­site fee and com­pleted all for­mal­i­ties.

Act­ing on the com­plaint, the vig­i­lance team laid a trap and nabbed Bal­jeet when he came to ac­cept the money from Ga­gan­deep.

The ac­cused will be pro­duced in court on Satur­day.
