SAS NAGAR: In the wake recent firing incidents and complaints of minor thefts in various markets, the Mohali Beopar Mandal demanded setting up police beat boxes and hiring private security guards who would work in close coordination with the police to enhance security.

The suggestion of setting up beat boxes in busy markets was given during a meeting of the representatives of Mohali Beopar Mandal with Varun Roojam, deputy commissionercum-commissioner municipal corporation, SAS Nagar, held here on Friday.

“There is a need to set up police beat boxes in main markets. This would enable private security guards to work in close coordination with the police which would help keep incidents of petty crime under check,” said Shalinder Anand, senior vice-president of the Mohali Beopar Mandal.

“The basic infrastructure in various markets is bad. The level of the parking area is not appropriate thus leading to water logging with even slight rainfall. We have urged the administration that if they provide basic infrastructure, the traders would bear the cost of installing CCTV cameras,” said Kulwant Chaudhary, president of the mandal.
