Five held for poaching fish at Sukhna Lake CHANDIGARH: Five persons have been arrested on charge of poaching fish at Sukhna lake in Chandigarh on Saturday. The accused were arrested by the special unit of Chandigarh police control room following a tip-off by a team led by SI Ghansham. Fish weighing about 20-kg were seized from the possession of the accused, identified as Hari Ram, Ram Bilas, Badlu Ram, Sanjay and Mukesh, all residents of Kaimbwala village. 10 held for drinking in public CHANDIGARH: Police have arrested 10 persons on charge of consuming liquor at public places in Chandigarh on Saturday. While nine accused were apprehended in areas falling under Sector 3 police station jurisdiction, one person was held in Mamimajra. The accused were booked under the Excise Act and later released on bail. 2 held for gambling CHANDIGARH: Two persons were arrested in separate cases of gambling in Chandigarh on Saturday.In the first case, crime branch sleuths arrested Baljit Singh of Khuda Ali Sher village near Sector 24/25 traffic light point and seized Rs 2,550 from his possession. He was booked under the gambling Act at Sector 11 police station. Police also arrested Sukhwinder Singh of Bapu Dham colony from Sector 26 and seized Rs 1,260 from him. A case has been registered against them. Both the accused were later released on bail. HDFC Bank, PUNGRAIN join hands CHANDIGARH: HDFC Bank on Saturday announced its tieup with the Punjab Grains Procurement Corporation Ltd (PUNGRAIN) to facilitate payment to its commission agents spread over 350 mandis in Punjab. “It gives us great pride to be part of this rural initiative from the Punjab government,” said Govind Pandey, branch banking head, north. The initiative will result in faster payments to these agents and in turn will benefit the farmers of the state.
