Five held for poach­ing fish at Sukhna Lake CHANDI­GARH: Five per­sons have been ar­rested on charge of poach­ing fish at Sukhna lake in Chandi­garh on Satur­day. The ac­cused were ar­rested by the spe­cial unit of Chandi­garh po­lice con­trol room fol­low­ing a tip-off by a team led by SI Ghan­sham. Fish weigh­ing about 20-kg were seized from the pos­ses­sion of the ac­cused, iden­ti­fied as Hari Ram, Ram Bi­las, Badlu Ram, San­jay and Mukesh, all res­i­dents of Kaimb­wala vil­lage. 10 held for drink­ing in pub­lic CHANDI­GARH: Po­lice have ar­rested 10 per­sons on charge of con­sum­ing liquor at pub­lic places in Chandi­garh on Satur­day. While nine ac­cused were ap­pre­hended in ar­eas fall­ing un­der Sec­tor 3 po­lice sta­tion ju­ris­dic­tion, one per­son was held in Mami­ma­jra. The ac­cused were booked un­der the Ex­cise Act and later re­leased on bail. 2 held for gam­bling CHANDI­GARH: Two per­sons were ar­rested in sep­a­rate cases of gam­bling in Chandi­garh on Satur­day.In the first case, crime branch sleuths ar­rested Baljit Singh of Khuda Ali Sher vil­lage near Sec­tor 24/25 traf­fic light point and seized Rs 2,550 from his pos­ses­sion. He was booked un­der the gam­bling Act at Sec­tor 11 po­lice sta­tion. Po­lice also ar­rested Sukhwinder Singh of Bapu Dham colony from Sec­tor 26 and seized Rs 1,260 from him. A case has been reg­is­tered against them. Both the ac­cused were later re­leased on bail. HDFC Bank, PUN­GRAIN join hands CHANDI­GARH: HDFC Bank on Satur­day an­nounced its tieup with the Pun­jab Grains Pro­cure­ment Cor­po­ra­tion Ltd (PUN­GRAIN) to fa­cil­i­tate pay­ment to its com­mis­sion agents spread over 350 man­dis in Pun­jab. “It gives us great pride to be part of this ru­ral ini­tia­tive from the Pun­jab gov­ern­ment,” said Govind Pandey, branch bank­ing head, north. The ini­tia­tive will re­sult in faster pay­ments to these agents and in turn will ben­e­fit the farm­ers of the state.
