Six held for eve-teas­ing

CHANDI­GARH: What could re­flect on the proac­tive­ness of vic­tims and po­lice both, the lo­cal po­lice ar­rested six per­sons on Satur­day on charges of eveteas­ing. Two oth­ers were nabbed for al­legedly try­ing to out­rage the mod­esty of two women in sep­a­rate in­ci­dents.

In the first in­ci­dent, four per­sons were ar­rested from near Sri Guru Gobind Singh Col­lege, Sec­tor 26. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the ac­cused were in a Mahin­dra Scorpio car and were spot­ted by PCR con­sta­ble Ravin­der Singh while they were pass­ing lewd com­ments and mak­ing ob­scene ges­tures to the girls pass­ing by.

The ac­cused have been iden­ti­fied as Muk­t­sar res­i­dent Jodh Singh, Lud­hi­ana res­i­dent Ran­deep Singh, Fate­habad­based ad­vo­cate Sar­bu­land Singh and Am­rit­sar res­i­dent Chan­der Bhushan. All four have been booked un­der sec­tion 294 of In­dian Pe­nal Code and a case has been reg­is­tered at the Sec­tor 26 po­lice sta­tion on the com­plaint of Ravin­der Singh.

In an­other in­ci­dent re­ported at Sec­tor 17 po­lice sta­tion, two per­sons were ar­rested for teas­ing a girl near Ki­ran Light point in Sec­tor 22. Po­lice iden­ti­fied the two ac­cused as Aman Kam­boj, 26, res­i­dent of SAS Na­gar, and Munish Sharma, 27, res­i­dent of Sec­tor 21. The two were rid­ing a Swift car bear­ing reg­is­tra­tion num­ber CH-01AE-1630 and were caught in the act by as­sis­tant sub-in­spec­tor Nafe Singh. Though they man­aged to es­cape when the ASI tried to ap­pre­hend them, their car reg­is­tra­tion num­ber helped the po­lice trace them.

Mean­while, Amit Ku­mar, a res­i­dent of Sec­tor 20, was ar­rested on the charge of try­ing to out­rage the mod­esty of a 22-year-old girl in his neigh­bour­hood. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the ac­cused has been booked un­der sec­tions 341, 354, 452 and 506 of IPC at the Sec­tor 19 po­lice sta­tion.

In an­other in­ci­dent, a Naya­gaon res­i­dent was ar­rested for al­legedly try­ing to out­rage the mod­esty of a 28-year-old woman. Giv­ing de­tails, sta­tion house of­fi­cer of Sec­tor 11 po­lice sta­tion, in­spec­tor Gur­mukh Singh said the vic­tim hired a three-wheeler from near Naya­gaon bar­rier. How­ever, she was pre­vented from board­ing the auto by an­other three-wheeler driver, as the said ve­hi­cle was from an­other stand. When the woman re­fused, the ac­cused Rakesh Ku­mar al­legedly pulled her out of the auto and abused her. A case un­der sec­tions 341 and 354 of IPC has been reg­is­tered at Sec­tor 11 po­lice sta­tion.
